After training for 6 weeks on the rules and mechanics of a High School softball umpire, our rookie umpires' receive their Junior Varsity and Modified softball schedules. Rookie umpires are then assigned a mentor to guide him or her through their first three years of High School softball umpiring. The primary role of the mentor is to continue the training and to make the rookie feel like part of the Niagara Frontier Board of Softball Umpire organization. The mentor is the rookie's go to person regarding any and all softball questions that they will encounter through out the school softball year. Mentors' will be available for the rookie after every softball game, either by phone or via e-mail. The mentor is there to also offer moral support to the rookie umpire. As a mentor, he or she is expected to observe the rookie umpire as often as possible during the High School softball season and give a constructive appraisal of the student.
